Transportation Help needed

Postby MrMNO » Fri Feb 05, 2010 4:56 am

I have had several members write to me and ask about transportation to DC.
If anyone has any useful information about forms of transportation Trains, Buses and carpooling please post them here.
I know we have one member that is interested in organizing a train ride, but we need to have 50 people in order to get a discount on Amtrak. I will do a little more digging and check into percentage of discount per ticket count and post the results as soon as I can.

We also might want to look into a bus? Any interest there? Let me know as soon as possible so that I will have a clear idea where I need to head with this please.

Okay, I have a little more information on the train (Amtrak) deal. Originally I was told that we need at least 50 to get a discount. The great news is the number needed is way lower than that. We only need 20 people to get the discount wheel rolling. Add to that you can get additional % off for senior, military etc. The bad news is in order to achieve the group rate, all 20 passengers need to be leaving from the same station.

With that said, I need a show of hands of those interested in riding the train and your location. It would be reasonable to pick a departure station closest to the largest group of people wanting to ride the train. After I can get an idea what station we would be departing from, I can get us a quote. Of course the more people riding the bigger the discount. If there are enough people interested in doing the train trip, say over 40. We could work that situation out one of two ways. We could have a southern Florida station and a northern Florida station to depart from or one centralized departure station. I may be able to work it out so that even though we are leaving from two stations, it would be applied as one group. I can't make that promise yet, but I will deal with it if that turns out to be the case.

Another thing, is timing. The sooner we can get a number and location, the lager the discount will be.

I'm in, Mike!  I did this with the 9/12 march, and departed from DeLand. The round-trip rate was from JAX, so I had to pay my own way from DeLand to JAX, which was no problem. The original group started in Ft. Lauderdale, they picked up several people along the way, and we had about 10 people get on in DeLand...about 100 got on in JAX. Let me know what you need and when you need it.

Hi gpbarth,
I am still hanging in there for you and the others and trying to get this going. One thing, have you contacted any of those folks? Maybe they have an interest in going to this event as well and that would help us get the numbers up faster. I will be posting on the Tea Party web site tonight and trying to get some interest up over there as well. Just a suggestion to try and contact those people...never hurts to ask.

Thanks for posting and I will keep you updated.

I have posted this information on several other forums but it seems like no one else is interested. I still am, but it looks like I might be riding by myself (no fun). Keep in touch.

Well, it looks like this thread is dead, so I guess there are no plans for a train to D.C.  There are plans being made for the 2nd Tea Party march on 9/12/2010, so I guess I'll get in on that one instead. Thanks for trying.
